Back to 'have your say'
Muslims move against Falwell, Robertson and Franklin Graham
On 10/15/2002, we read a lenghty message from Mr. Samy Fawzy, offering
CAIR's protest against Rev. Falwell.
CAIR claims to represent American moslems, and they are mad because of some
remarks made by Rev. Falwell about Mohamed, the moslem prophet.
Now, Rev. Falwell did not threaten to kill any moslem. He did not kidnap
any moslem child to force her to change her religion. He did not harass and
intimidate any peacful moslem family (or even non peacful family for that
matter), and yet, this is exactly what moslems are doing to Christians in
Egypt and all over the moslem, and arab countries. Why is CAIR silent about
this, but screaming very loudly about mere words said by Rev. Falwell ?
In addition, Rev. Falwell said one thing, in one interview. How convenient
to "forget" about the screaming imams and sheiks in mosques all over the
moslem countries, insulting Christianity and Christians on a daily basis
with the blessing of authorities, and saying much worse things than the
Rev. ever said.
CAIR's statement is nothing but pure hypocrisy, and frankly, I do not think
it should have been allowed to appear on the Digest, thus giving it
respectability it does not deserve.
There is no doubt that CAIR has the right to defend the moslem prophet, but
for us to give them the chance to air their views fully, while our brothers
and sisters are being murdered, attacked while praying inside their
churches, tortured, and badly humiliated for simply being Christians, is
going too far. CAIR has never taken a strong and firm stand against
criminal fanatic moslems who are committing these crimes on a daily basis
in Indonesia, Sudan, Egypt,...etc.
Where do you stand, CAIR ? Let us hear from you, loud and clear, a strong
condemnation of all terrorist acts against Christians. You are worried
about some statements made, but we grieve for Christians who were burned to
death. How come your members are enjoying the freedom and democracy of the
Christian USA, and you deny the same for the suffering Christians still
living in your moslem mother countries ?
When CAIR attacks someone or something, we hear about it all day from the
TV, radio, newspapers,..etc, but, please, we certainly do not need to read
it here on the Digest.

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/9/2) - CAIR is calling on people of conscience to
contact House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Texas) and other elected officials
to ask that they not attend a conference this Friday at which well-known
"Islam-bashers" will be featured and applauded.
Rep. DeLay and others are being asked not to offer tacit support for those
who would attack Islam by attending the Christian Coalition's "Road to
Victory 2002" two-day conference, which begins this Friday in Washington,
D.C. DeLay is the most prominent elected official to be featured at the
conference.

Religious figures scheduled to appear at the conference include Revs. Pat
Robertson and Jerry Falwell, both of whom have recently attacked Islam or
the Prophet Muhammad.
In an appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" program,
Robertson smeared both Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. About Muhammad,
Robertson said: "This man was an absolute wild-eyed fanatic. He was a
robber and a brigand. And to say that these terrorists distort Islam,
they're carrying out Islam
I mean, this man [Muhammad] was a killer. And to
think that this is a peaceful religion is fraudulent." Robertson also
called Islam "a monumental scam" and claimed the Quran, Islam's revealed
text, "is strictly a theft of Jewish theology."
On Sunday, Falwell referred to the Prophet Muhammad as a "terrorist" on the
CBS news program "60 Minutes." Given an opportunity in other media
interviews to amend his defamatory comments, Falwell declined.
"As a House leader, Representative DeLay can send a message to the world
that anti-Muslim bigotry will not be tolerated in America. Bigotry and
hatred can only thrive when good people remain silent," said CAIR Executive
Director Nihad Awad in a letter to DeLay. Awad added that attacks on the
deeply-held religious beliefs of others can only serve to divide America
and create or perpetuate conflicts around the world.
Muslims and people of other faiths around the world have expressed outrage
over the recent attacks on Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. Islamic parties
in Pakistan have called for a nationwide strike on Friday. British Foreign
Secretary Jack Straw called Falwell's remarks "outrageous and insulting."
Iran asked members of the 55-nation Organization of Islamic Conference
(OIC) to speak out on the issue. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the
National Council of Churches have both issued statements condemning Rev.
Falwell's remarks.

Shiite Clerics Enraged by Falwell
By HUSSEIN DAKROUB
.c The Associated Press
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - Shiite Muslim clerics in Lebanon and Iran have
reacted with rage at the Rev. Jerry Falwell for calling Islam's prophet a
terrorist and an envoy of Iran's supreme leader reportedly called for his
death.
Iranian cleric Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestari, addressing weekly Friday prayers
in the northwestern town of Tabriz, said Falwell was a ``mercenary and must
be killed,'' the Farsi-language daily Abrar reported Saturday.
``The death of that man is a religious duty, but his case should not be
tied to the Christian community,'' Shabestari, a representative of Iran's
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was quoted as saying.
In an interview broadcast last week on the CBS program ``60 Minutes,''
Falwell said: ``I think (Prophet) Muhammad was a terrorist''.
The conservative Baptist minister said he has concluded from reading Muslim
and non-Muslim writers that Islam's prophet ``was a violent man, a man of
war.''
In Lebanon Saturday, Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah called on
Muslim countries to respond to Falwell who, he said, had ``infringed on the
prophet (Muhammad's) dignity.''
Fadlallah, however, cautioned against resorting to ``physical violence''
against Falwell, saying Islam is ``a religion of mercy and love.''
In a statement issued in Beirut, Fadlallah also urged Muslims worldwide to
counter what he called ``a cultural war'' launched against Islam following
the Sept. 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington.
Fadlallah, 67, has condemned the Sept. 11 attacks. He is a senior Shiite
religious authority and a harsh critic of U.S. policies in the Middle East,
a region where Arabs view America as being biased toward Israel in its
conflict with the Palestinians.
In August, Fadlallah issued a fatwa, or religious edict, banning Muslims
from assisting the United States and its allies if they attack Iraq. He
also urged Muslims to withdraw their money from U.S. markets for fear they
may be frozen or confiscated.
Earlier this week, another Shiite cleric in Iran, Ayatollah Hussein Nouri
Hamedani, called on Muslims to cut relations with America. He accused
Falwell of implementing ``a Zionist plan'' to cause a clash between Islam
and Christianity.
But other Muslim clerics held different opinion.
``Although (Falwell's) opinion is insulting, he can be answered through
dialogue so that all ambiguities in his mind are cleared,'' Iranian
Ayatollah Hussein Mousavi Tabrizi said.
Tabrizi refused to compare Falwell to British author Salman Rushdie,
against whom the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the father of the
Iranian revolution, issued a death verdict in the 1980s for blaspheming
Islam in his book ``Satanic Verses.''
``Rushdie is a symbol of the red line between Islamic countries and the
West. But we will not issue a death verdict against the priest. Iran is a
country that promotes dialogue among civilizations,'' Tabrizi told The
Associated Press on Saturday.
